The Royalists
My name is Royston (Roy) Bould. My Group 'The Royalists' (a 4-piece ) played at Minehead Camp for a 20-week season in 1964, and we had done a pre-season week there earlier (for a conference) in the March.
We
played mainly in the
'Pig and Whistle', but
also in the 'Blinking Owl', and we opened the Show in the Gaiety
Theatre on Saturday nights.
The Entertainments Manager was Al Harris.
.
We played the Bognor Camp in 1965 for a pre-season week, again for a conference (Round Table, I think) where the star was Ted Ray. We were then sent to Filey for the rest of the season. (14 weeks, mainly with grey overcast skies!) At Filey we played the 'Sportsman Bar'. A great experience, especially Scots' fortnight! [Sorry to say we have no photos from 1965.]
We
returned to Filey for
the 68-69 seasons as
a trio, playing in the French Bar, for
which I am happy to say we DO have some photos.
.
We also we performed part-time Redcoat duties for 9 hours per week, in exchange for a Concessionaire Pass, entitling us to Bed & Breakfast on camp. (Musicians on contracts normally had to stay off camp).
We did mainly Reception duties on Saturdays, and various competitions during the week. Great fun!
I've looked on your
webpage and, in the
Filey
68 Redcoat team photo, I remember about 10 faces. Not bad after 45
years. Hope to have a reply from you and, hopefully, that someone will remember us. It's been a long time. Regards, Roy Bould o-o-o-0-o-o-o Angela Robinson writes: In the last picture, the Redcoat on the left is ME (Angela Robinson, as was) and the girl on the right I thought was a Diane (not bad for 48 years ago!) - checked on the picture of Redcoats at Filey 1968 and see her name is Diane Hall!! I really am loving all this Redcoat stuff - brings back memories! Showed my son (aged 34) the pictures - and he said I hadn't changed a bit! With all good wishes, Angela Brice (nee Robinson). o-o-o-0-o-o-o See Also: |
